Allow or block items using the Allow list in Desktop Security

If the app detects a website, file, or application that seems malicious it will block your access. If you know the item is safe, you can add it to the Allow list to prevent it from being blocked. You should only add an item to the Allow list if you are absolutely certain the file or application is harmless. 

Add website, app, or file to the Allow list

You can add an item to the Allow list in two ways: from the Allow list tab or when you restore an item from quarantine. Before adding an app or file to the Allow list, make sure you're confident it's safe for your device. Contact our support team if you are unsure.

1. Open the app.
2. Click the Detection History card.
3. Click the Allow list tab.
4. Click the Allow (macOS) or Add item (Windows) button.
5. Select the file, folder, application, or website you want to add to the Allow list. On Windows devices, you can also choose previously detected exploits.
6. Select the file, folder, or application. If you want to add a website to the Allow list, enter the URL or IP address. 
   • On Windows devices, click the checkbox to confirm you understand the security risks.
7. Click Open or Save. The item you chose is now saved to the Allow list. 

Remove website, app, or file from the Allow list

You can block an item by removing it from the Allow list, allowing the app to detect it again. You can remove an item from the Allow list by following the steps below.

1. Open the app.
2. Click the Detection History card.
3. Click the Allow list tab.
4. In the Allow list tab, select the item you wish to remove.
5. Click Remove (macOS) or the trashcan icon (Windows).
6. On Windows devices, click Yes on the popup that appears. Your item is now removed from the Allow list.

Backup and restore your Allow lists

1. Open the app.
2. Click the Detection History card.
3. Click the Allow list tab.
4. In the Allow list tab, click Backup/Restore.
5. In the drop down, choose either Backup list or Restore list. The Backup/Restore Allow list screen will appear.
6. From the Backup/Restore Allow list screen, you can either export your allow list as a JSON file or restore a previous list by importing a JSON file. 
   • Note: When you restore an allow list, your current list is permanently replaced.
