Install Desktop Security on macOS devices

Start protecting your device against malware, viruses, and other threats with the app. Follow the instructions below to download and install the app on your macOS device.

Before installing the app, check if your device is compatible with the system requirements.

1. Download the app for Mac.
2. Navigate to the Malwarebytes Mac installation file in your Downloads folder and double-click to open it.
3. Review the introduction, then click Continue.
4. Review the Read Me page, then click Continue.
5. Review the Malwarebytes Software License Agreement, then click Continue.
6. A pop-up asks you to agree to the license agreement. Click Agree.
7. Confirm the standard installation type by clicking Install. A pop-up asks you to verify the installation.
8. Input your Mac username and password, then click Install Software. 
9. After the app finishes installing, click Close. 
10. A pop-up asks if you want to move the installer to the Trash or keep it. Select Keep or Move to Trash.
11. After installing your security product, a welcome page opens. Click Get started to continue with the setup.
12. Select your type of device: 
    • Personal Mac: A device you or your family own for home and personal use.
    • Business Mac: A device owned by your company or place of employment, like Malwarebytes for Teams customers. 
13. On the next screen, select Maybe later or Buy Now:
    • Maybe later: Click this button to use the free version. If you already have a paid subscription, click this button and activate your device within the app. 
      • Note: You cannot use Scheduled Scans and Real-Time Protection in the free version.
    • Buy Now: Click this button to view subscription purchase options.
14. The next screen gives you the option to subscribe to our newsletter for security tips and updates from the Malwarebytes team.
    • Click Continue without email to proceed to the app's dashboard.
    • Enter your email and click Continue with email to subscribe to our newsletter, and then proceed to the app's dashboard.
15. You have successfully installed the app on your macOS device. To activate your subscription next, see Activate your subscription for Desktop Security.
