The auto-update feature is currently not working for Malwarebytes for macOS version 5.4.1. Due to the inability for the app to automatically update, devices that have version 5.4.1 do not have the latest features, strongest protection, or the best VPN experience.
What caused the issue
Version 5.4.1 can't auto-update to newer versions and requires a manual update. This update is also needed to continue using the VPN due to recent app and VPN improvements.
How this issue affects you
A manual update is required to continue using the VPN. Subscriptions that include the VPN are still active, but you need to update to the latest version to resume using it. Subscriptions that do not include the VPN are also still active and we encourage updating your app to ensure full protection. This update is also required if you wish to upgrade your subscription plan to include VPN.
How to resolve this issue
To update the app to the latest version, you need to manually check for updates from the app:
- Click on the Malwarebytes icon
in the menu bar at the top of the screen on your macOS device.
- Click Open Malwarebytes to open the app.
- In the menu bar at the top left of your screen next to the Apple icon
, click Malwarebytes.
- Click Check for Updates...
- The app will update to the latest version.
Lastly, check to make sure your app is on the latest version:
- Click on the Malwarebytes icon
in the menu bar at the top of the screen on your macOS device.
- Click Open Malwarebytes to open the app.
- In the menu bar at the top left of your screen next to the Apple icon
, click Malwarebytes.
- Click About Malwarebytes, a window appears with information about the app.
- Under Version History, you can see the version number. See our Version History for a list of our latest versions.
