Web Protection keeps turning off on Malwarebytes for Android after you enable battery optimization, system updates, or system cleaning apps.

How this issue affects you

You receive a notification prompting you to enable the Web Protection feature. After you enable the feature, it turns off automatically. You then receive the same notification to enable Web Protection again after restarting your device or closing the application.

What caused this issue

You enabled battery optimization features, system updates, or system cleaning apps on your Android device that turned off Accessibility Services permissions. Because Web Protection requires Accessibility Services permissions to be turned on, it won't function properly and keeps turning off.

How to resolve this issue

  1. On your Android device, open Settings to turn off battery optimization for Malwarebytes.
    • Note: Different devices may have various options to disable battery optimization, so go to your device vendor's website for specific instructions.
  2. Return to Settings on your Android device.
  3. Tap Accessibility.
  4. Under Downloaded apps, tap Malwarebytes Web Protection.
  5. Toggle On Use Malwarebytes Web Protection.
  6. Follow the instructions on screen to enable Accessibility Services for Malwarebytes. If no instructions appear, continue with the next step.
  7. Open your Malwarebytes app to turn the Web Protection feature back on.
