Prioritize Browser Guard rules

Browsers, such as Chrome and Edge, now limit how many rules extensions like Browser Guard can load. Instead of having unlimited rules, your extensions now compete with each other for a set amount of rules from a shared pool. Because of this, Browser Guard might not load all its ad-blocking rules, which could reduce protection and ad blocking effectiveness. If one extension uses up all available rules, it limits what your other extensions can do. This affects Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari browsers. 

Browser Guard works normally until it hits its rule limit. After that, it applies all available ad-blocking rules, but not all rules may be active at once.

How to resolve this issue

If Browser Guard has reached its rule limit, you can either remove extensions you no longer use or customize which protections you want Browser Guard to prioritize.

Remove old extensions

Review and remove any extensions you don't use anymore or don't need. This will free up space for Browser Guard to have more rules and not reach the rule limit. The more extensions you have, the more likely it is that Browser Guard will reach the browser's rule limit. 

Customize Browser Guard's priorities

Prioritize which Browser Guard features are most useful to you when browsing online. By choosing which features to focus on, you can reduce the number of rules Browser Guard needs. You can prioritize Browser Guard's protection rules from Browser Guard's settings:

1. Click the Malwarebytes iconin your browser's header.
2. Click the Settings tab at the bottom of the Browser Guard dashboard. A web page opens in your browser.
3. Scroll down to Protection Rules and click Manage rules.
4. On the Manage your browser protection page, drag and drop the protection features to list them from most important to least important to you.
   
5. Click Save my choices.

Browser Guard will keep checking for available rules and apply protection features in your preferred order. If you don’t change anything, Browser Guard uses the default priority to load as many rules as possible.
