Why we're dropping support for macOS 10.12
At Malwarebytes, we're committed to providing our users with the best software experience possible, which includes maintaining compatibility as technology advances. For our product to remain compatible with the latest macOS versions, we must adapt to the latest technologies. Unfortunately, these technologies are unavailable in macOS version 10.12 (Sierra). Due to the software's age, Malwarebytes is discontinuing support for macOS 10.12 (Sierra) effective with the Malwarebytes for Mac version 4.22 release.
What does this mean for you?
For those currently using macOS 10.12, here's what you need to know:
- No further updates: Users with macOS 10.12 will no longer receive Malwarebytes software updates after version 4.21. No access to updates means that you won't benefit from new features or improvements in future versions of our software.
- Security updates: Your device's security is important to us. Even though you won't receive software updates, we will continue providing regular database updates to protect your system from potential security threats.
- Industry-wide transition: Please be aware that other software providers may also begin discontinuing support for older macOS versions over time. As technology advances, it becomes increasingly challenging to maintain compatibility with outdated operating systems.
What should you do?
If you're currently using macOS 10.12 and want to continue using our software, we recommend upgrading to a more recent macOS version if possible. Upgrading your operating system will allow you to install and use version 4.21, and ensure you can take advantage of the latest features, enhancements, and security updates.
