If you suspect that Malwarebytes might be interfering with other software from running on your Windows device, you can troubleshoot the issue by temporarily turning off Malwarebytes and seeing if the other software runs.

How this issue affects you

A software or program on your Windows device won't run while Malwarebytes is installed.

What caused this issue

Malwarebytes is a security app that blocks potentially harmful software from running on your device. It can sometimes interfere with software unexpectedly.

How to resolve this issue

To determine if Malwarebytes is interfering with your software from running, turn off Malwarebytes from your device and try running your software again.

Note: Only turn off Malwarebytes if you are absolutely certain that the other software is safe.

  1. In the System Tray, click the Show hidden icons arrow. The system tray is located in your taskbar next to your clock.

  4. Try running the other software.
  5. If the software doesn't run, Malwarebytes is not interfering with your software. If the software runs, see If Malwarebytes is causing an issue below for how to fix the issue.
  6. Restore your protection by opening the Malwarebytes app or restarting your computer.

If Malwarebytes is causing an issue

If Malwarebytes is interfering with other software from running on your Windows device, there are two things you can do:

  • Add the other software to the Allow list in Malwarebytes. For more instructions, see Allow or block items using the Allow list in Malwarebytes.
  • Contact support to notify them about the other software so that the Malwarebytes app might be updated to be able to interact with it. Start a conversation with support here.
