The macOS VPN app version 2.5.0 is no longer supported. To improve your experience, Malwarebytes now combines VPN features with our Security app, allowing you to manage both in one application.
To keep using your VPN subscription, please download our Desktop Security app. For instructions on how to purchase, install, and activate the new app, refer to our Desktop Security Quick Start Guide.
After you purchase the VPN, you must install and activate the product on your macOS device. To purchase a subscription for VPN, click here.
If you purchased a subscription for multiple devices, find instructions on installing and activating on different devices.
Install or reinstall the VPN
To install or reinstall the VPN on your macOS device, follow the steps below:
- Download the latest version of VPN for macOS.
- Double-click MalwarebytesPrivacy-x.x.xx.xxx.dmg.
- In the pop-up window, drag the Malwarebytes Privacy icon to the Applications folder.
- In the same window, double-click the Applications folder.
- Double-click Malwarebytes Privacy when the Applications folder opens.
- Click Open to confirm you want to open an app downloaded online.
- Malwarebytes Privacy opens. Click Get Started.
- Choose one of the provided options, then follow the on-screen steps to activate:
- Sign in: Enter your Malwarebytes account login credentials, Email address and Password to activate. To set up your account login, see Create your Malwarebytes Account.
- Enter license key or MB code: Enter your license key and click Activate. You can activate the product using the MB code if you previously installed VPN on a Windows or macOS device. Learn more about how to generate MB Code.
- Privacy needs to load a system extension. Click Open preferences.
- On macOS Ventura devices, the Privacy & Security windows opens.
- Click Allow next to the System software from application "Malwarebytes Privacy" was blocked from loading message.
- Enter your system password and click Unlock or Modify Settings.
- On macOS Sierra to Monterey, the Security & Privacy window opens.
- Click the lock icon at the bottom left of the window, enter the system password, and click Unlock.
- Click Allow on the bottom right. Click the lock icon at the bottom-left corner to prevent further changes to your settings.
- On macOS Ventura devices, the Privacy & Security windows opens.
- Once configured, Malwarebytes Privacy displays the app Dashboard. Switch on the ON/OFF toggle.
- In the pop-up window, select Allow under Malwarebytes Privacy Would Like to Filter Network Content. This is an Apple policy requirement. Malwarebytes does not monitor your online activities or data. You can read more about our Privacy Policy.
- The application shows Your connection is private.
