When attempting to install Malwarebytes version 5 on a Windows device, you see the following error message: Not a Microsoft Approved App.
What caused this issue
This error is shown when S mode is enabled on your Windows device or you have your device set to only allow Microsoft-verified apps. Both of these features only allow the installation of apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
How to resolve this issue
Disable S mode on your Windows device
If you see the pop-up below, S mode is enabled on the device. To resolve this issue, disable S mode on the device and redownload the app.
Change Windows app settings
If you see the pop-up below, your Windows settings only allow apps from the Microsoft Store. To resolve this adjust your Windows app recommendation settings to allow apps from anywhere and redownload the app.
