Enable Tamper Protection on Windows devices

Tamper Protection protects your app so changes to your subscription, scheduled scans, and Malwarebytes app settings require a password. When you enable Tamper Protection, select which settings you want to be locked. Then, create a password to protect your app settings. If you forgot your password, see Forgot Tamper Protection password.

Turn on Tamper Protection

  1. Open the app.
  2. Click the Settings Settings_Cog.png icon in the left side bar.
  3. Click Protection.
  4. Scroll down and toggle on Tamper Protection.
  5. On the Tamper Protection page, select which settings you want to block access to.
  6. Click Next.
  7. In the pop-up, create a password to protect your settings from changes.
    • Note: The password you created for Tamper Protection is separate from your Malwarebytes account password.
  8. Click Save.

To change a setting protected by Tamper Protection, you must enter your Tamper Protection password. After entering your password, you can make changes to your settings for the next 30 minutes.

Change which settings are protected by Tamper Protection

To change the settings that Tamper Protection secures, go back to the Tamper Protection settings and adjust the options.

  1. Open the app.
  2. Click the Settings Settings_Cog.png icon in the left side bar.
  3. Click Protection.
  4. Under Tamper Protection, click Configure protection.
  5. Enter your Tamper Protection password.
  6. Update which settings are locked by Tamper Protection.
  7. Click Next to finish.

Forgot Tamper Protection password

Unfortunately, you can't reset your Tamper Protection password from the app. If you forgot your password, you will need to uninstall and then reinstall the app. After you have reinstalled the app, you can set up a new Tamper Protection password.
