Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) keep your personal information secure by encrypting the traffic carrying your information from you to websites or apps connected to the internet. If you have a paid VPN subscription, you can customize VPN settings on your Android devices to ensure your traffic is encrypted when you access the internet.
Set up Always-on VPN on Android devices
The Always-on VPN setting ensures your Android device stays connected to the VPN at all times, whenever it is connected to the internet. To set up the Always-on setting:
- On the Malwarebytes app dashboard, make sure VPN is turned On.
- At the bottom of your dashboard, tap Settings
.
- Tap VPN.
- Under Always-on VPN, tap Go to Settings.
- Tap the
icon next to Malwarebytes.
- Toggle on Always-on VPN.
Block connections without VPN on Android devices
Enabling Block connections without VPN protects your personal information by preventing you from accessing websites, such as banking websites, without first connecting to the VPN. In other words, this setting blocks your access to the internet if the VPN disconnects. If you're having issues accessing the internet, check if this setting is on.
- Open the Malwarebytes app on your Android device.
- Click Settings

- Click VPN.
- Click Go to Settings.
- Next to Malwarebytes, click the cog icon
.
- Toggle on Always-on VPN.
- Toggle on Block Connections without VPN.
Exclude apps from VPN with Split Tunneling
Note: The Block connections without VPN setting needs to be off to use the Split Tunneling feature.
- Open the Malwarebytes app on your Android device.
- Tap Settings
.
- Tap VPN.
- Tap Split Tunneling.
- Toggle on Split Tunneling.
- Choose Exclude as your tunneling mode.
- Tap Add apps +. A new screen appears with a list of apps you have on your device.
- From the list of apps, check all the apps you want to bypass your VPN.
- Tap Save.
