In very rare instances, clicking "Check for updates" on your Windows or macOS device may not trigger the app to update, even if an update is available. This issue can occur due to a problem with the app's connection to our servers, preventing the update from taking place.
How this issue affects you
When trying to update your app to the latest version, clicking Check for updates does not prompt an update and your app is stuck on it's current version.
What caused this issue
On Windows devices, there may be a number of items on your Windows device that block access to Malwarebytes' servers. These items could include hosts file block, a proxy or VPN, a third-party firewall or security application, or other.
On macOS devices, a third-party VPN, security application, or other item may be blocking your connection to Malwarebytes' servers.
How to resolve this issue
On Windows devices
If your Check for updates scan is continually loading, follow the steps below:
- Restart your Windows device.
- Open the app.
- Click the Settings
icon.
- Click the General tab.
- Under Application updates, click the Check for updates button.
- If you are unable to update the app, contact Support.
If an error message appears when you click Check for updates, contact Support.
On macOS devices
To successfully update your app to the latest version, follow the steps below:
- Restart your macOS device.
- Click on the Malwarebytes icon
in the menu bar at the top of the screen on your macOS device.
- Click Open Malwarebytes to open the app.
- In the menu bar at the top left of your screen next to the Apple icon
, click Malwarebytes.
- Click Check for Updates...
- If you are still unable to update the app, contact Support.
