Scam Guard is an AI chatbot that helps keep users safe from online threats like scams and phishing. It analyzes what you share and offers real-time safety tips. When using Scam Guard, you might need to share a screenshot, but remember not to send any sensitive or personal information such as bank info or passwords. Read on to find out how Scam Guard and Malwarebytes protect your personal data in the chatroom.
How this feature works
When you submit an item, such as a email, phone number, text message, or screenshot of a notification, Scam Guard removes any personal information before sending it to our server for analysis. There, the item is cross referenced with our protection databases to determine if the item is suspicious or a known threat. If the item is found to be suspicious or a threat, Scam Guard provides recommendations on next steps.
You can choose to submit your item to our threat intelligence team for further analysis.
Privacy of your data
When you use Scam Guard, your chat messages and screenshots are securely stored on our servers for up to two hours before they are automatically deleted.
To determine if something poses a threat, the app extracts specific items, such as links, phone numbers, or emails, from the chat message or screenshot and cross-references them with our protection databases. Only the item itself is used for cross-referencing; no personal user data is utilized in this process.
If you submit an item to our threat intelligence team, only the type of item (such as phone numbers, emails, or links) is reported. Your chat messages and personal information are not included in this report.
