Apps that use webcams are commonly used in workplaces to communicate with coworkers, clients, and business partners. However, bad actors can also utilize webcams to spy on you and even record you. Desktop Security for Windows uses its Webcam Monitoring feature to alert you when an app on your device has access to your webcam. These alerts help you maintain your privacy and stay aware of which apps have access to your camera.
Turn on Webcam Monitoring
Before Desktop Security for Windows can monitor your device, you must first turn on the Webcam Monitoring feature.
- Open the app.
- Click the Privacy Controls
icon in the left side bar.
- You may see an informational screen describing Privacy Controls features. Click Got it to continue to the Privacy Controls page.
- On the Privacy Controls page, click the Webcam monitoring tab.
- Toggle on Webcam monitoring.
After Webcam Monitoring is turned on, you will see notifications from Malwarebytes when it detects an app with access to your camera. For more information on managing Webcam Monitoring notifications, see Manage webcam access on Windows devices.
