A Virtual Private Network (VPN) protects your personal information by encrypting your internet traffic as you browse. This encryption helps prevent online threats from identifying who you are, where you’re located, or what websites you visit. Without a VPN, your online activity is more exposed, making it inherently less safe than when a VPN is turned on.

You may see one of the following messages in your Malwarebytes app:
  • Your online activity is Potentially exposed
  • Online activity Potentially exposed
Don't worry! This message does not mean your device is at risk. It simply indicates that your VPN is currently turned off. If your subscription plan includes VPN protection, we recommend turning it on to stay safer while browsing online.

When first setting up your VPN, you may see a default VPN server location selected. To change VPN server locations, see these articles for Windows and Mac and Android and iOS.
