To check a website with Scam Guard Lite:
- While on a website you are unsure of, click the Malwarebytes icon
in your browser's header.
- Click the Scam Guard icon
at the top right of the Browser Guard dashboard.
- A window opens and Scam Guard Lite automatically begins a scan.
Clicking the Scam Guard icon for the first time will start a download of the model, which can take some time, depending on your internet speed. Feel free to close the pop up and check back later.
Understanding your scan results
The top of the Scam Guard Lite window displays the overall threat level of the website and any security recommendations. After a scan, Scam Guard Lite may label a website as No obvious threats, Safe, Suspicious, or Dangerous. Review the recommendations carefully and stay alert when browsing online, regardless of whether a website is labeled as safe or suspicious.
The lower section of the Scam Guard Lite window provides a more detailed security assessment of the website. Below are descriptions of each part of the security assessment:
- THREAT LEVEL: A summary of the website's security assessment.
- Key Findings about Potential Risks: Lists potential risks about the website you're on, including content analysis, external scripts or links, website legitimacy, suspicious word choice usage, and more. Use these findings to help determine the safety of a website.
- Specific Recommendations for the User: Lists recommended behaviors to follow when on this website. If you notice any unusual or suspicious behavior when using the site, report it to Malwarebytes support.
- Red Flags Detected (if any): Any red flags that the website shows will appear here. These indicators provide a snapshot of the website’s security and overall trustworthiness. A comprehensive security analysis would require a deeper dive into the website's code and network traffic.
