Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. Once an operating system has reached end of support, they are more vulnerable to attacks and may limit app performance.
What this means for your subscription
Malwarebytes works best on devices and systems that are up-to-date. The latest version of the app with advanced protections is not available on unsupported systems.
If you have Malwarebytes on a Windows 8.1 device or lower, you will continue to receive regular threat intelligence updates for a limited time. To get any new protection capabilities, you will need to upgrade your Windows version and transfer your subscription to your new device. Follow the instructions below to keep your Malwarebytes subscription on the same device!
What you need to do
If you can't upgrade your Windows operating system
If upgrading to the latest Windows operating system isn't possible at the moment, you can still download a version of Malwarebytes that works on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. However, this version of Malwarebytes cannot receive updates. If you can upgrade your Windows operating system
To keep your Malwarebytes subscription on the same device:
- First, deactivate the app on your current Windows device. This won't cancel your subscription but will remove access to paid features, allowing you to re-activate them on your new operating version.
- For instructions on deactivating your subscription from a device, see: Deactivate device via your app.
- Next, upgrade your Windows operating system. See Microsoft's upgrade options for more information.
- Finally, download the latest version of the app and activate your subscription on your new Windows operating system.
